A Guide to Beyoglu

This guide covers the part of Istanbul known as Beyoglu, the district lying to the north of the old city of Constantinople, and separated from it by the waters of the Golden Horn.
Following a general historic introduction, the book is divided into a series of walking tours, describing Beyoglu’s major monuments—mosques, churches, synagogues, as well as the houses and commercial buildings of the late Ottoman era and the early years of the Turkish Republic. Although the guide focuses on the district’s rich past, Beyoglu’s contemporary character is also portrayed, particularly its renowned night-life.
